JO Experience Week
What a wonderful experience for all of our students to take part in at JO. Many were given the chance to engage in opportunities that extended the curriculum and brought them some new challenges. Some of the events that our students attended include the Chinatown Historical walk, Yoga, STEM, Drumming Circle, and the Human Books Library. The energy in the building was inspiring. When asked, many enjoyed these workshops, despite the various changes in their schedule. They all did a fantastic jobs.
Core Words and Feelings
This term, we are trying to use the Core strategy to support students’ communication skills. This month’s core words include Go, Want, More, Stop. By the end of each day, we have a reflection. This is the time where we want our students to get into the habit of linking and constructing meaning from their overall school experience. Many have struggled to find words that they can use to describe their day. During our reflection time, staff goes over their whole day and would remind them of the highlights and challenges. They would reflect on their day and then communicate back to the class.
Music without Limits
We are happy to have Michelle to come to our school to lead music sessions with our students.
Community Outings
A snowy day brings the beauty of Mother Nature: a soft white carpet covering the brown black asphalt in the morning; barren boughs of trees coated with a film of ice crystals that glisten in the afternoon sun. -- things we would not notice otherwise. What a wonderful experience taking transit and heading to Hillcrest together as a class.
