Turkey!
Usually, I will do at least one art project per month. Most arts and craft projects involve moving the hands and fingers. These movements include fine motor skills and improve the overall muscle strength and control over movements. When our students colour or do a craft project, their motor skills gradually improves. Most craftwork can be achieved in more than one way. I like to do crafts because it teaches our students that they can make the same result through a different method. This will help them in real life where they continuously face situations with multiple possibilities.
Clay Art
Participating in the art project as a group is a great way to develop friendships. Mr. H and I are planning to pair students up according to their common interests. The responsibility of our staffs will be facilitating the activity without interfering their social interactions.
Cooking
There are two new cooking recipes for this month:
Cripsy square rice crackers and white chocolate popcorn
As much as creativity is valued in the class, the focus of this month's cooking classes was to teach them how to follow the recipe.
The methodology used is called guided instruction. This is when "teaching is done with small, purposeful groups, which are composed based on students’ performance on formative assessments. The groups consist of students who share a common instructional need that the teacher addresses." There is a bit of scaffolding with supports, in the form of questions, cues, and prompts.

Field Trips (Hillcrest, Troutlake and Oakridge)
It was a huge breakthrough for many students to overcome their fears of taking the transit, being part of a group and learning how to interact with each other.
Aaron performed outstandingly well on the Trout Lake field trip. At first he was hesitant and refused to go on the ice, yet with the persistence and encouragement from Ms. T, Aaron decided to put on his helmet and skated! All the staff praised him for his courage and willingness to try new things. Good job Aaron!
